BLACKTOWN ANIMAL REHOMING CENTRE
Largest facility of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere
Located in the Sydney suburb of Glendenning, 44 kilometres west of Sydney CBD, the Blacktown Animal Rehoming Centre is a modern, eco-friendly, and welcoming facility designed with best practices for animal care and rehoming. The Centre also functions as a community hub where visitors can adopt animals.
The involved the construction of six distinct purpose-built buildings connected by covered walkways. The facility features 135 dog kennels and 230 cat homes, along with reception and adoption areas, staff rooms, veterinary facilities, function spaces, and exercise yards. The layout is designed to maximise thermal, visual, and audio comfort, reducing distress and aiding in rehabilitation while also providing amenities for staff. Scenic views of the surrounding landscape are incorporated into the kennel areas to enhance interaction with nature.
The purpose-built, state-of-the-art BARC is the largest facility of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere. It is designed to enhance animal assessment efficiency, reduce holding times, boost adoption rates, and lower euthanasia rates by giving each animal the best chance to rehabilitate and be adopted back into the community.
