Balancing heritage and state-of-art architecture
The Langley Precinct project is located on the grounds of The University of Sydney, balancing heritage listed architecture with state-of-art student facilities. The works included a new multipurpose building, named the ‘Sibyl Centre’ that allows for social, activities, lectures, performances, conferences and general leisure.
The ‘Sibyl Centre’ knits seamlessly into the Langley Precinct celebrating the strong history of The Women’s College and establishes the space for growth well into the future. Described as a kind of manor house on a rolling green landscape, it is crowned in a distinctive copper filigree that is the central feature of the building, depicting a scene from a College play from 1913. Other features include uninterrupted glazing at ground-floor level, face brickwork, parquetry flooring and sculptural timber-lined stair.
